Repairing Exterior Stucco in Chicago Land Homes

Many original homes in the Chicago Land area use cement stucco and plaster stucco to cover the exterior. Stucco took popularity in Chicago in the early 20th century when houses were designed in Mediterranean style and wanted to replicated the adobe texture of these homes. Initially done using mixtures of horse hair, sand, and ash, Chicago homes varying on their materials and texture. Although now horse hair is been out of stucco practice for a while, Forest Park Stucco has learned how to closely recreate textures and styles* on the oldest of homes.

Why Stucco?

Stucco is a durable, low maintenance exterior covering for homes and smaller commercial buildings. It comes in many colors. Stucco, the application of cement plaster to the exterior of structures and public monuments has been used for centuries. Some historians believe that the Egyptian Pyramids were covered in white plaster. The great advance in exterior stucco came in 1843 when Joseph Aspdin, a bricklayer in Leeds, England, perfected Portland cement by processing cooking lime and clay together in his kitchen turned laboratory. Joseph named the product Portland cement because it resembled a stone quarried on the Isle of Portland off the British Coast.

There’s nothing quite like stucco to give a home and elegant appearance that expresses its unique personality. Forest Park Stucco can help you restore and maintain that beautiful appearance because our craftsmen are experts at the art of applying stucco. Of course, there’s a lot more to stucco than meets the eye. Historically, stucco has been popular because it could be worked to simulate finely dressed stonework, especially when “scored” or “lined” in the European tradition. There are as many styles of stucco work as there are craftsmen. The art of stucco restoration is to replicate the style, texture and color. Let the experienced craftsmen of Forest Park Stucco help preserve your home’s beauty.

With stucco beauty is far more than skin deep.

Through the years, flaws can grow silently within your walls threatening to mar your home’s appearance. As water seeps in, it eventually freezes and expands and soon small cracks give way to large bulges. Once the damage has been done, you’ll need all the experience and expertise that Forest Park Stucco’s craftsmen can provide.

The secret of our seven-year guarantee is the degree of preparation that goes into every stucco restoration we perform. Not all stucco work is the same! Before any finish coating can be applied all the loose, bulging stucco must first be removed. The method used in repairing these areas varies greatly from contractor to contractor. The only way you can know for sure that all of the proper steps are taken is to have it in writing. Every proposal written by Forest Park Stucco lists our seven step formula used to insure the beauty will remain long after the job is completed.
